DELIGHTFUL 1940s\' TAUPE TILT HAT - LARGE BEIGE OSTRICH FEATHERS, BROOCH & VEIL
download picture
description
This is truly a showstopper taupe felt tilt hat from the amazing 1940\'s. The structure is oblong, extending backwards and creating a slight pointy shape. There are magnificent ostrich feathers emerging from the back. The quills are covered by an interesting large metal brooch which depicting people, as shown in the photos. The full veil is the same color as the feathers. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to help keep it in place.
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
Labels: NEW YORK CREATION + Store Label: THE MAY COMPANY Los Angeles
The New York Creation label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue. Hats bearing this label are highly sought after.
Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
